The Baby No Diaper Can Hold
October 10, 2007

Leanne still has my ability to sleep. Pretty much any place, anytime any how and for long periods of time. .. knock on wood.

She seems to inherited her bodily functions from her father. And of this he is quite proud. Our current issue is diapers. I have tried a number of brands, types, styles and sizes and somehow every single day Leanne manages to have a major blowout. At least three mornings a week I go into Leanne’s room, find my happy baby full of smiles, go to lift her up out of her “sleeping chair” (thats for another blog) and find a leg covered in poo. Not exactly my favorite thing first thing in the morning, but at least I haven’t eaten yet. Jay on the other hand always manages to dodge these. Not that he somehow picks the poo free mornings. It is more like “Hey Meg can you change Leanne? I gotta eat breakfast. I am going to be late for work. Oh and by the way she is covered in poo”. This is followed by Jay sounding like a heard of elephants as he dashes to the kitchen. I think (or at least I would like to think) he just doesn’t know where to start and leaves the dirty work up to me. Oh well.

And it is not always in the mornings. It also happens in the evenings as Leanne sits in her bouncy seat while I make dinner. The good thing about those is most times I hear them. The bad thing is I don’t always catch them in time.

I would have never in a million years guessed a kid and not just any kid -my dear sweet daughter could poo this much. One of the best things I registered for, and somehting I never thought I would really need, are the Carters Keep Me Dry Pads. These things are a life saver! I always end up doing at least a load of laundry every day, but atleast these keep me from having to wash the “sleep chair” cover, bouncy seat cover or swing cover. We used to jokingly refer to them as pee pads, but I think we need to change that to poo pads.

At the time, I preferred pampers cause they always seemed to fit so well. There might be another brand out there that fits her better. Could be that even though you’re buying the diapers according to weight, they might still be a little too big around the legs for her. When all else fails and she’s having that many blowouts, she just goes too fast and loose for the gel inside the diaper to absorb it quick enough. The only consolation I can offer is that when she starts eating cereal or if she is already, you might want to give her the rice flakes instead of oatmeal, that ought to take some of the moisture out, giving aforementioned poop a little more consistency ;D
Also, while you’re trying different diaper brands, don’t go and buy the super-mega-kabillion bag o’diapers till you find one that works!

Is “seedy” a consistency? Because if so, she’s there already. And I probably said it before, but it warrants saying again: Where the hell do seeds come from?

Ya learn something new everyday, on babycareadvice.com it says it’s normal stool for breastfed babies (I think is what you guys were going with right?)
Consistency: soft or runny
Color: yellow, mustard to orange with little white flecks THAT LOOK LIKE SEEDS
Frequency: Can vary from every feed to once every week or so.

Actually did a search on yahoo for “seed”+baby poop LOLOLOL crisis averted!!!!!!!!!!

Luckily, this is a phase. It’s a disgusting one, but it doesn’t last too long. And yah, always wondered where the “seeds” come from. With going through this on 4 kids, the brand that “held” the best on one kid, we’d have “blow outs” on another. Just have to try each brand and see which one works. Might want to try having her wear rubber panties on top of the diaper to help hold it in. Will still be a mess in them to clean up, but it will help save the other items in the house she’s sitting in. This phase did get better with the introduction of cereals.
