10:00 is Not an Acceptable Bedtime for a 1 year old!

HELP!

For the past week or so Leanne seems to have developed a new bed time schedule that is for the birds!  I don’t know if it is because of teething or what, but she’s been going to bed at her normal time with little fuss.  Then an hour or so later she wakes up crying, exhausted and completely miserable and is awake until 10:00 when she goes back down sometimes for the night, sometimes to wake up a few times before morning.

I am at a complete loss as to what the issue is.  The only thing I can think of is that it is related to teething (we are still working on the last molar).  I’ve tried giving her tylenol at various times before bedtime hoping that would help, but nope. For the life of me I can’t figure out what happens between 8:30 and 10:00 that keeps this kid awake.  Any ideas???

motrin always works better for us!

Gotta show some love for the children’s motrin! That stuff works so much better and faster than tylenol, although the pediatrician said you can use both, tylenol is 4 hrs and the motrin is 6-8. The motrin works for a longer time too, very handy for high fevers, knocks it down within the hour. As for her waking up, could be a million things…teeth, earache and don’t go thinkin she’s too young to try a power play either (you’re not the boss of me!) Once you think you’ve ruled out illness, next time she wakes up, dont go right in, wait a few mins see if she gets bored and goes back to sleep. After a few nights waiting a few more mins each time she’ll probably drop back into her old routine.

I’m glad you mentioned the power play since that’s exactly what I’ve been wondering: if she’s old enough to start to try to push buttons.

I kinda thought she is, but if you asked me before she was born I wouldn’t have thought 14 months was old enough to be a pain in the ass yet. I take it I was wrong. :)
