Leanne is teething yet again. I feel like every time we finally recover from the last batch of teeth more are on their way. This time is is the eye teeth between the front four and the first molar. From what I’ve read in some of my books these the most painful teeth to come in. Last week while we were away the two bottom ones began to cut and they seems relatively pain free. I guess it was the distraction and exhaustion of Disney World that made them seem not so bad. This week hasn’t gone so smoothly. Poor Leanne has been waking up through out the night and just wants to be held and won’t let me put her back in her bed until she is completely asleep. The result of this is Leanne and I spending hours sleeping in the rocking chair.

Along with the pain of teething she also has some cold symptoms - runny nose, cough, sneezing, hoarse voice. These could be teething related or a cold. Who knows, but we’ve been staying away from our friends just in case. Hopefully this will be over soon and we can get back into our normal schedule.

We are back from our fabulous week in Disney! We did a whirlwind trip in August for Tara and Justin’s wedding, so this was our first week away as a family. I am happy to report that Leanne is a great traveler. She did so good on the plane, slept great in her pack and play in the hotel and was a total joy to be around the entire week! She even cut two new teeth while we were down there (what is with this girl and teething in Disney?). We were lucky enough to have Jay’s parents come down with us which really helped a ton!

We had a jam packed week and were able to hit all the Disney parks and spend a day at the Universal Parks. Leanne loved the rides! I think her favorite was the parking lot tram. She seems to especially enjoy the wind in her face. Hopefully that is a sign that as soon as she is tall enough she’ll be riding all the roller coasters with Daddy, Mommy and Grandpa! Leanne also really liked Small World, Finding Nemo in Epcot, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Buzz Lightyear ride. She went on the Haunted Mansion twice and fell asleep both times. Leanne also enjoyed meeting the characters. She wasn’t scared of them at all and only cried when her turn with them was up.

We had wonderful weather - the begining of the week was in the low 80’s with no humidity, but as the week went on it got hotter and more humid. Disney was always a ton of fun before we had Leanne, but I must say that having her with us made it so much more fun, even if she doesn’t really “get it” yet. It was great to get away and get some very much needed family time. We had a great week, but I think we are all happy to be home. Traveling with a 16 month old is completly exhausting even with extra help!

Be sure to check back for pictures. We have a ton! I am sure that Jay will be posting them soon!

Leanne won’t shut up lately.

It’s awesome, don’t get me wrong. And it could be worse. Our neighbor’s daughter learned very young the phrase “What’s that?”. Like good parents, they feel inclined to answer every time. We hung out with them for about 30 minutes and I heard the baby ask “what’s that?” about 78 times, so I can imagine how draining that is over the course of a full day.

After “da da” and “ma ma”, Leanne quickly learned how to identify and say “baby”. She actually gets really excited when she sees babies, more so for pictures of herself.

I have a picture of Leanne as the background wallpaper on my phone. I know, I’m one of those people. At least I use a normal wallpaper on my laptop so that when I attach it to the projector for class, my students aren’t greeted with a giant wall sized picture of Leanne.

Leanne discovered my phone and realized that if you press most buttons, it shows the background. With her little baby mind, she forgets that the baby was there when the auto-off kicks in, so pressing the button again is an entirely new excitement for her. I wish I had that sort of lame short term memory.

I grabbed the camera and tried to record a bit of it. I said “most” buttons since some will lead to the calendar. Of course, when I actually have the camera out, she kept pressing the wrong button, which is why you see my hand reach in a few times. Most of the time, she’s capable of entertaining herself for a solid 10 minutes (which to the non-parents feels like hours that I don’t have to entertain her).

I tried embedding the video below. Let me know if you can’t see it.
